Lazarus of Bethany was sick.

Lazarus of Bethany was sick. Therefore, his sisters sent to Jesus to tell him of his sickness. As soon as he heard that he was sick, he stayed two more days in the place where he was but later he told his disciples to go again into Judea. They reminded him that just recently the Jews tried to stone him there and and did he really want to go back again. Jesus replied that Lazarus sleeps, (speaking of his death, not of his sleep.) and that they should go to him. Thomas added that we may die with him. (JHN 11:1-16)
